I have heard it reported that the Archbishop in Iraq was upset with "Western Catholics" who are so excited and into this "game" and the nuances of the two popes, etc. while innocent Catholics, including women and children are literally being blown up in Iraq and elsewhere around the Middle-East.

I feel very badly for the persecuted Christians in Iraq. Does that mean the rest of Christianity should stop having joy, or being happy, or having humor about the papacy? Christ said the poor are with us always. I think He expected/knew there would always be those that would persecute His Church. Yes, we should be aware of what is happening in Iraq. We need to make others aware and try our best to help them in any way we can. We will pray for them of course, but we must try to help them get out of that situation, also.
ReplyDeleteTo address your other comment: A minute of prayer is a start. A minute of prayer is a sign of unity of purpose. A minute of prayer has people stop in the middle of what they are doing and remember those with real needs. A minute of prayer is better than no minute of prayer. A minute of prayer can happen now and not need planning and coordinating. A minute of prayer from 10's or 100's of thousands or soccer fans is, well, 10's or 100's of thousands of minutes. Why would one be upset about that?
I have to agree with you CM5. A minute of prayer does not have to be and should not be the end-all, but a beginning. I also agree that the situation in Iraq deserves prayer and fasting - that genocide must end - and peace needs to come to the region. Now if the people preaching the end times are correct, there won't be peace... until the Antichrist comes, and that peace will last only about 3.5 years.
