Death of Osama

With the death of Osama Bin Laden I've seen many people "rejoicing," and then we see some Christians complaining that we should not be rejoicing over the death of anyone.  I believe Clarence Darrow (originally attributed to Mark Twain) sums it up the best:

"I have never wished a man dead, but I have read some obituaries with great pleasure."

Plus we are reminded of what King Solomon had to say:
All things have their season, and in their times all things pass under heaven. Eccl 3:1
A time to kill, and a time to heal. A time to destroy, and a time to build.  Eccl. 3:3

A time of love, and a time of hatred. A time of war, and a time of peace. Eccl. 3:8

I didn't attend the funeral, but I sent a nice letter saying I approved of it.

  4. The response issued today by the Vatican spokesman, Fr. Federico Lombardi, and reported by my colleague Edward Pentin:

Osama Bin Laden—as everyone knows—has had the gravest responsibility for spreading hatred and division among people, causing the deaths of countless people, and exploiting religion for this purpose.

Faced with the death of a man, a Christian never rejoices, but reflects on the serious responsibility of everyone before God and man, and hopes and pledges that every event is not an opportunity for a further growth of hatred, but of peace.

  5. Scot, here's my spin on Osama's passing: (to the tune of "I'll Be Glad When You're Dead You Rascal You) Yes, you are croaked, you monster you. Yes, you are croaked you monster you. You thought when you died, you'd get 72 virgins in the sky, but you're in a place where the fire's very high! Yes you are croaked yo monster you!
