Diocese of Phoenix expands indult to three locations, invites Fraternity

Phoenix, June 21 -- A one-year experiment with the restoration of the Tridentine/Gregorian Mass of 1962 was declared a success in the State of Arizona by His Excellency, Bishop Thomas Olmsted of Phoenix.

After a 35-year gap, the 1962 Roman Missal was offered at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in east Phoenix for the last year.

The Mass will continue at St. Thomas. Bishop Olmsted has granted the parish mission status under the name "Mater Misericordiae." It may grow to a full old-rite parish some day.

The Mass will also expand to other locations:

  • St. Augustine in Phoenix, AZ (with a FSSP priest in residence)
  • St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Clarkdale, AZ
  • MASS TIMES:
  • At St. Thomas the Apostle at 1 p.m. Sundays.
  • At St. Augustine in west Phoenix at 7 a.m. Sundays, 6:30 a.m. weekdays and 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays.
  • At St. Cecilia in Clarkdale, a former mission that has not been used for years, at 5 p.m. Sundays.
