Special Kind of Blindness

In a discussion about the Eucharist a friend of mine recently commented:
There is... a speical kind of blindness that affects Protestants that does not allow them to to understand the meaning of the word "is."
My response was:

It is agenda driven. They cannot acquiesce on this one because to do so means something REALLY DOES HAPPEN at the consecration of the Eucharist - and THAT would involve the priest having REAL authority, given BY GOD to CALL GOD HIMSELF down to the altar. The awe and majesty which is ours - could be theirs too, but they would have to overcome the pride which ultimately is what blinds them. I once was blind, but now I'm found. Great song, written by a Protestant, but it's still a great song. Some of them are SO CLOSE to the truth.
